Message from the President

Paediatric Infectious Diseases is a vital specialty that focuses on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and control of infections in children—from newborns to adolescents. In a region like Nigeria and indeed Africa, where infectious diseases remain a leading cause of childhood illness and death, the role of paediatric infectious disease specialists cannot be overstated. We are at the forefront of tackling challenges such as sepsis, HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, vaccine-preventable diseases, and emerging infections, while also addressing the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance. The Nigerian Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases (NISPID) is committed to advancing child health through research, advocacy, education, and collaboration. Our mandate is to strengthen the capacity of healthcare professionals, promote rational antimicrobial use, support evidence-based policies, and foster partnerships that enhance infectious disease prevention and control. Our vision is that every tertiary and secondary health facility in Nigeria will have dedicated paediatric infectious disease expertise, ensuring that no child dies from a preventable or treatable infection. Together—with commitment, innovation, and teamwork—we can build a healthier future for every Nigerian child.
